The energy management company Schneider Electric could scale its IOT platform with emagine as a partner after struggling to find Java developers.
emagine’s strategic team setup, with fast onboarding of Polish Java experts, paired with revised communication and knowledge-sharing, improved trust, retained team members, and addressed performance issues for project productivity.
Schneider Electric – a global energy management and automation specialist in more than 100 countries – faced significant challenges in scaling its IoT platform, EcoStruxure, which is built in Java and used for data centre monitoring.
Their business in Kolding, Denmark, struggled to find skilled Java developers and to maintain team engagement and productivity. They contacted emagine.
After hearing the challenges and situation, emagine proposed a comprehensive and customisable approach designed to optimise both talent acquisition and retention while ensuring the efficient scaling of the platform EcoStruxure.
emagine suggested a hybrid and distributed team organisation with the client’s team in Denmark and building and managing a specialised developer team in Poland.
A service delivery manager from emagine was assigned to oversee team engagement, performance and growth. Although this role was not full-time, the manager provided critical guidance and support, ensuring the team remained aligned with Schneider Electric’s objectives and adhered to best practices.
emagine established the managed team with a product owner in Denmark and the rest of the Java team with 8 experts in Poland.
A Service Delivery Manager from emagine was responsible for improving team engagement and performance.
Having access to a vast talent pool of relevant roles from multiple locations meant that emagine could use its experience in hiring and managing teams swiftly, thus onboarding went smoothly.
This ability also benefitted the possibility of scaling the teams when needed. The team management’s capabilities improved the way of working and ensured innovation, contributing to the project’s timely delivery.
Key aspects of emagine’s implementation included ensuring the service delivery manager had access to the backlog and attended team meetings, promoting seamless communication and oversight.
emagine’s lead maintained transparent communication with the client about team expectations and performance, addressing issues early. Continuous experimentation was encouraged to drive improvements.
During the project, the client experienced the value of an efficient hybrid team setup supported by solid knowledge sharing across the distributed teams.
The flexible structure enforced the importance of open communication between the teams, improving the ability to build trust and proactively address performance issues in both teams.
The successful set-up and enhanced communication were vital for project delivery and scaling.
Schneider Electric’s challenges were successfully addressed by the strategic approach of forming a managed, hybrid team in multiple locations with access to the right experts.
The team has since scaled up to over 10 consultants from emagine, who continue to work on enhancing Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure platform.
The hybrid setup allows for efficient platform scaling, facilitates the acquisition of skilled developers, and maintains high team engagement and productivity.
